1939: England in Color (part 1):
Barney Britton: Their relative rarity makes the discovery of color images older than the 1960s instantly fascinating. After all, early color offers us a view of the past in the colors and tones of our own more recent experience and memories.

The following slideshow (part 1 of 2) provides a glimpse into a time – and a place – long vanished. Specifically, England in August 1939, less than a month before the outbreak of World War Two. The young couple in the photograph above are my grandparents, on their honeymoon.
