Caught by the River

Frozen Wye

12th January 2009

postcard from Richard King

I’m reliably informed that the Wye freezing is a rare occurrence.

My phone, as you can see, takes snaps rather than photos, but here are a couple from Tuesday when the mercury recorded -11 at night,
perfect temperature for a wassail.

You might be able to make out the blurry horizon of Offa’s Dyke and Lord Hereford’s Knob.

Maybe this is what Nico had in mind when she wrote Frozen Borderline:

Friar hermit stumbles over
The cloudy borderline
Frozen warnings close to mine
Close to the frozen borderline
Frozen warnings close to mine
Close to the frozen borderline

Although in terms of borders, I’m sure she found the Moss Side front line in January, as seen through Richard Boon’s broken window, just as edifying

top of the year to all who sail at CBTR
