Jeff, I thought that you might be interested in a new series of linocuts I am working on. These are the first three of the series of six and are all taken from images gathered and recorded in sketchbooks that I compiled while at art school in Newcastle in the mid-sixties.

Sadly the pits have gone now, just memories, like the prints. The waste tips have been levelled and turned into housing estates or country parks. The lucky ones get a concrete block over the shaft with a little plate on it saying what was there. The linocuts are very different to the maps in ‘Caught by the River – a collection of words on water’ but enjoy them anyway.

all the best, John
