Promised Land

Jeff writes;
A song that always makes me think of Charlie Gillett (and thank him for, come to that) is Promised Land by Johnnie Allen. I think it may have been the first single release on Oval. one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll 45s of all time. then there was the Another Saturday Night comp (that later came out on Ace) with Tommy McLain’s ‘Before I Grow Too Old”. incredibly influential records (think The Clash). Oh, and “You’ll Lose A Good Thing” by Barbara Lynn, all of the “Here is Barbara Lynn” LP in fact. and the Sir Douglas Quintet, what a group, Doug Sahm, there’s a story we should tell some day….which one should I play? It has to be Promised Land. Here’s to you Charlie;
