Alaotra Grebe Extinction

29th May 2010

From Rick Webb:

Not sure if this is something you’d be interested in featuring or not, but I think it resonates with much of what you’re doing (which is excellent, by the way)…

Anyway the Alaotra Grebe, an apparently quite beautiful Madagascan bird is now gone forever, a result of the introduction of carnivorous fish to the lakes in which it lived, and the use of nylon gill-nets by fishermen.

Why should we care? That, according to Bird Life International is always the first question asked by the media of news like this.

They’re inviting those who do care to say why on their site. HERE.
