Caught by the Reaper – Harvey Fuqua

12th July 2010

Harvey Fuqua 27 July, 1929 – 6 July, 2010

Reading the paper this morning I was saddened by the news of the passing of Harvey Fuqua, one of my favourite record producers and songwriters of the ’60s and ’70s.
Originally starting out as a performer, most notably as the lead voice of The Moonglows on ‘Ten Commandments of Love’, Harvey married Gwen Gordy and became an in-house guy at Motown right up to the early ’80s. During that time he produced several jukeboxes worth of fantastic, timeless records, including ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ for Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, a record that has been with me for nearly forty years and still to this day makes me burst with joy whenever I hear it.
