Kavel Rafferty Book

28th November 2010

Kavel Rafferty is the artist responsible for the illustration and design of our Remember Roger Eagle book and this week saw the publication of her book ‘Spamhead‘. It’s available now in a very limited, hand screened, edition from the Nobrow website.

they say:
Kavel Rafferty created SPAM HEAD; portraits based on the strange and sometimes wonderful names that arrive uninvited in her email inbox every day, trying to sell her designer replica watches, viagra and other such nonsense. She wanted to make portraits for these funny faceless folk and so started to hand draw in pen and then scan the reverse side of the paper with her faithful old scanner in order to get the desired fuzzy quality of line. The result is a delightful collection of 13 imaginary personalities contained in a concertina book hand screenprinted in an edition of just 100 copies. Each one is signed and numbered by Kavel. They are available now and make great xmas gifts!
Kavel Rafferty is an English illustrator who lives and works in Barcelona. She combines drawing, found imagery, print and paint to create unique images of real emotional resonance and genuine charm. Her inspirations and interests – like rare old soul 45s, flea markets and vintage shop signs and type – help inform her distinctively bittersweet, elegantly nostalgic style. Kavel has been asked to create works for everybody from The Times and The Observer to Conde Nast Traveller, Topshop, Paperchase and Selfridges. She also runs her own small exhibition space in Barcelona, Galeria Kavel.
