Caught by the River

In the Bar at the Golden Hart Hotel

Will Burns | 10th August 2012

A poem by Will Burns.

In the bar at
The Golden Hart Hotel
there is a choice
of what to look at—
the women’s shot-put,
where three throws
in a row surpass
each other in their heroic
distance, or the stag’s
head that hangs
from the wall
by the big screen.
Don’t lose it now,
old sport, I think.

Will will be reading poetry alongside John Barlow, on the Caught by the River & Faber Social curated Estuary stage at Festival Number 6, on 16 September.
