Manchester’s First Chop Brewery and the Good Measure clothing label have more in common than most. Both make small runs of fine products and place high quality raw materials at the heart of their respective operations. With both enjoying a marvellously organic growth over the last few years, a celebratory single hop craft beer seemed like a great idea. First Chop Good Measure pale amber ale is the result of this meeting of minds.

Brewed from mosaic hops and sold at just ten venues around the Greater Manchester areas, it’s the perfect synthesis of style and substance. Mosaic is the current darling of the hop world, and its powerful character lies at the heart of this smooth, pale amber ale with a rounded, caramelly malt base. First Chop’s Richard Garner describes the taste as a “tropical fruit explosion” and it’s the first in what the brewery hopes will be a series of single-hop collaborations with Good Measure.

First Chop is located just over the Manchester border in Salford. From their railway arch HQ, the craft brewery produces a capsule range of award-winning craft beers. The company is run by passionate brewer, Richard Garner, with beers like SYL, TEA, AVA and First Chop Good Measure the result of his hard work and expertise.

Good Measure have a similar ethos using the finest materials with the aim of producing high quality sweatshirts in small runs here in England. The brand was conceived by a group of friends who’ve been around long enough to know what they want – which is the perfect sweatshirt! The brand is stocked by the taste-making likes of Oi Polloi, and Good Measure enjoy a global following.

First Chop Good Measure beer is available in Greater Manchester during July 2014 at Strange Brew, Font and The Beagle (all Chorlton), Kosmonaut, 2022, Common, Port Street Beer House (all city centre) and First Chop Brewing Arm in Salford. It’s hopefully going to be in Volta and Electrik in the next couple of weeks.
