Caught by the River

A Caught by the River Social Club

8th December 2015

The first Caught by the River Social Club of 2016 is happening in London on Sunday 28 February.

An afternoon portrait v6 copy

The event at Bush Hall in November was such a great success that we’re going back for more. In the afternoon again too.

Buy tickets here.

Of special note is a rare London live appearance by the poet / songwriter / musician Virginia Astley. Virginia will be accompanied by her harpist daughter, Florence. Virginia will be a name familiar to folk that bought a certain type of music back in the early part of the 1980’s, either as a member of The Ravishing Beauties or as the creator of the 1983 solo album, From Gardens Where We Feel Secure (recently revisited by the writer Richard King in his book Original Rockers).

The London Sound Survey is a name familiar to our readers and event supporters. The man behind it, Mr Ian Rawes, will be presenting sounds of London life spanning many decades.

Amy Liptrot’s remarkable memoir, The Outrun, is published on 14 January by Canongate. It’s a special book and one which we know is going to have a big impact next year. Regular readers will know that Amy has written considerably for Caught by the River and highly recommended reading is her column from 2012 – Curious Isles: A Life On Orkney, – which is archived here.

At this event Amy will be reading and discussing The Outrun with our very own Emma Warren

Also present will be our poets in residence Will Burns and Martha Sprackland, MC John Andrews and DJ Jack Sellen.
