3: Like Falling Angels The World Disappears – West Norwood Cemetery
West Norwood was the second oldest of the Magnificent Seven ring of great Victorian cemeteries surrounding London. By the early 20th Century, the cemetery was completely full, but in the 60s and 70s, Lambeth Council razed a huge section for new burials, wreaking much damage on architecturally listed monuments and losing many important graves. The Friends Group successfully sued the Council to stop the damage, but many areas are now open meadow strewn with broken stones. In the Springtime, the meadow areas are left unmown, to allow a profusion of wildflowers to flourish.
