Flood Recovery Art Auction – Hebden Bridge

1st March 2016

On Friday 4th March 2016, Hebden Bridge Trades Club will host an international art auction in order to help the victims of the Calder Valley Boxing Day floods.

Following the floods, local artist Caroline Reed reached out to her friends in the artist community to see if she could raise funds to aid local uninsured businesses and creatives who had been directly affected. She asked for donations of work for an art auction. Caroline, who has recently exhibited at the Royal College of Art’s FLUX exhibition, wasn’t quite prepared for the response she got. What started as a small auction containing a few works from emerging local and national artists has transformed into an international art auction, with high-end pieces of contemporary artwork being sent in from all over the globe. RBS award winning Sam Shendi, Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year Christian Hook, and rising star Lesley Oldaker are amongst the 100 + artists that have all donated kindly to the cause.

Local auctioneer Ian Peace, of Calder Valley Auctioneers, has generously offered his services to ensure the auction runs smoothly, with well over 100 lots now in the catalogue. Any work which doesn’t meet reserve on the night will be exhibited for sale at Creative With Nature art gallery in Todmorden from the 29th of April to 7th May.

Viewing is from 12 noon and the auction commences at 7pm. Further information and catalogue can be found at http://www.floodrecoveryartauction.co.uk.
