Ronald Blythe’s Akenfield and J.L. Carr’s A Month in the Country stand as two of the most evocative portraits of English rural life in 20th century literature. Both books were adapted into films which, after years of relative obscurity, have just been re-released by the BFI in newly remastered DVD and Blu-ray editions.
