Artist Wolfgang Buttress has created a new installation especially for Wirksworth Arts Festival, which takes place from 9-25 September in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales.

The installation, entitled ‘BEAM’, projects audio and visuals from ‘The Hive’ sculpture at Kew Gardens, and acclaimed live performances by musical collective ‘BE’, onto the ceiling of St Mary’s Church. Sound emanates from a speaker concealed beneath a grill in the nave floor, adding an audible dimension to the experience. Clad in a mirror finish, the installation gives two world views simultaneously. Externally, the context of the church enveloping the viewer is reflected, and at a closer distance, the viewers themselves. Internally, perforations based on the geometry of honeycomb reveal an inner glow, suggestive of the life within a bee hive. More information available here.
