This December, Caught by the River and Faber Social host a very special joint Christmas party.
We’re joining forces with the country’s very best publisher and taking over our mutual regular haunt, The Social, on the evening of Wednesday 13th December. Over the course of the night, we will pull together a kind of greatest literary hits of the year party, featuring readings and talks from authors and fellow travellers.
The Christmas party features:
– David Keenan talking to Andrew Weatherall about This Is Memorial Device – one of the undisputed books of the year. (‘After reading David Keenan’s This Is Memorial Device there’s every chance you’ll swear you once heard one of the records or cassettes mentioned in the book played on the John Peel show. This goes beyond evocation: you will become a willing participant in somebody else’s hallucination’ – read the rest of Andrew’s review here).
- Adelle Stripe talking about her stunning novel Black Teeth and a Brilliant Smile (‘In Stripe’s book, as in Morley’s film, a life is recreated out of years of meticulous, thoughtful research combined with an extraordinary amount of love’ – read Anna Wood’s review of the book here).
- Daisy Eris providing a unique reading from this year’s hugely lauded book 2023: A Trilogy by the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu (‘It’s a work of immense comic megalomania, but one that blends the absurdism with a plausible undertow of profundity.’ Read Roy Wilkinson’s review here).
MC on the night is the redoubtable John Andrews; poetry will be provided by Will Burns and Martha Sprackland and music to fit the mood will be chosen by DJ Frances Castle (Clay Pipe Music) and Heavenly Jukebox. Doors at 7pm, carriages at midnight.
