This morning, the shortlist for the £10,000 Portico Prize for Literature – for books that ‘best evoke the spirit of the North’ – was announced. Heartiest congratulations to Graham Caveney, Ray Robinson and Glen James Brown – and most especially to beloved Caught by the River contributors Adelle Stripe (for Black Teeth and a Brilliant Smile),  Ben Myers (for Under the Rock) and Jessica Andrews (for Saltwater).

The winner of The Portico Prize will be announced on 23rd January 2020.
