Following its first play on James Endeacott’s Morning Glory show on Soho Radio this morning, Spoken Word & Nature Disco Vol. 10 — a special Scottish edition compiled by Andrew Wasylyk and Tommy Perman — is now available to stream via our Mixcloud.
The mix celebrates the release of Andrew and Tommy’s album Ash Grey and the Gull Glides On, which came out on Friday on Clay Pipe Music.
Tommy says: “The idea of this mix was simmering prior to Arab Strap frontman Aidan Moffat sending us his offering for our album-closer ‘Be The Hammer’. To us, Aidan’s wonderful half-spoken, half-sung Falkirk drawl seemed to complement our idea beautifully. It cemented me and Andrew’s shared appreciation of spoken word and music. It can be such a magical combination.”
Andrew says: “We wanted to try and showcase a diverse range of Scottish writers and musicians, new and not-so-new, whose work we appreciate and are grateful for. It’s a quiet celebration, a wee snapshot of some of the wonderful artists who contribute to the ever-evolving Scottish story. At a time when arts funding in Scotland is being threatened and withdrawn it feels a timely reminder of just how vital artists and the arts are.”
