A once-in-a-while reminder of our paid subscriber offering, which is crucial to continued running of the site.

We know lots of media companies — and not just the small, independent ones — are vying for your coin at the moment, and the last thing we want is to be another gnat in your ear. But, frankly, it’s tough out here.
We’ll keep it brief, but it cannot be understated what a difference our paid memberships make to our tiny publication (a massive thank you to everyone who has taken one out up until this point). As environmental crisis looms large — temperature ever increasing, rivers running drier, data centres getting thirstier and billionaires getting richer — we want to keep publishing stories of community, resistance and hope, and gathering around them together. If you love Caught by the River, want to help us secure its future (paying staff, writers, and keeping the lights on) and can afford to, we’d love it if you’d consider taking out a paid membership.
What’s on offer:
Tiddler memberships (£5 per month) are much the same as a “buy me a coffee” button — a worm for the digital bait-box, if you will, to say you like what we do. You will get a membership card and a pin-badge when you first sign up, and then we’ll leave you to it.
Middlers (£8 per month) get access to regular, specially commissioned bonus digital content, in addition to their supporters’ card and badge. Every month, contributing editor Tallulah Brennan delves deeper into our Book of the Month through an in-depth interview with its author, including that author sharing their Antidotes to Indifference. Previously published examples come from Nicola Chester, Hollie Starling, Christina Riley, Anna Chilvers & Clare Shaw, Jason Allen-Paisant, Kate Brown, Zakia Sewell, Melissa Harrison and Natasha Carthew. Once a quarter, we also invite a writer to share their most favourite moments of spring, summer, autumn or winter, with a specially commissoned illustration by Adam Higton. So far, we’ve had Amy Liptrot on her Pleasures of… Winter, and Kerri ní Dochartaigh on Pleasures of… Spring.
In addition to all of the above, Lunkers (£10 per month) also receive a 15% discount in our Bandcamp shop — valid on our full range of merch, books, zines and records for the duration of the membership — as well as earlybird and discounted access to event tickets.
As you likely already know if you’re reading this, we are and have always been an independent publication run by a tiny staff, publishing weird, wonky and full-hearted DIY coverage of arts, nature and culture since 2007, unbeholden to shareholders, advertisers or big media companies. Whilst the main site and newsletter will always be free to read and share, all memberships, past, present and future — alongside purchases from our Bandcamp shop or Bookshop.org page — contribute to our maintenance, independence, longevity and ability to pay for commissions.
Take out a subscription here if you’re so inclined. Thanks for listening!
