‘Recorded in early June 2026, these eight short works were improvised on a Make Noise ‘Shared System’ loaned to Loula Yorke by fellow East Anglian electronic explorer, Luke Sanger.

This sought-after synth (now discontinued by its makers) showcases the original sound design principles of influential modular synth company, Make Noise. Loula’s new collection brings this idiosyncratic sound palette to the fore; like a series of reflective chambers, lit up by the warmth of a distorted sine to reveal obsidian walls etched with cadmium and gold – right down to the DIY cover art, which nods to the distinctive hand-drawn designs adorning the synth’s face plates.

Loula spent just over a week with this unfamiliar system, recording eight sessions in as many days, using the experience as a way to breathe some fresh air into her modular practice sessions; to feel the rush of being a complete beginner in a world of wonder again. Non-stop energetic sounds of new life were constant companions during these sessions as a pair of starlings was raising a brood of chicks in the roof of the Cottage Studio where Loula works. These noisy hatchlings, and the electric calls and perpetual motion of their tireless caregivers, rapidly became the inspiration for this suite of pieces.’
