The Garden Enclosed by David Jones
This a picture of David Jones kissing Petra Gill that he painted to mark their engagement in June 1924, when Petra was not quite eighteen. The title alludes to the Song of Solomon, ch4, v12 ‘A garden inclosed is my sister, my spouse’.
Jones was a painter and poet. There is a great essay on his most famous poem In Parenthesis about the First World War on the Faber website.
