My grandfather was a weaver and dyer, he came to Ditchling to study with Ethel Mairet in 1923. Petra Gill was a fellow student. In 1924 he joined the Guild of St Joseph and St Dominic and took over the tenancy of Eric Gill’s old workshop (Gill had moved to Wales). He worked there all his life until he died in 1982.
