Caught by the River

Findhorn Salmon

16th July 2010

by Simon Lewin.

Back in 2006 I caught this very memorable fish. It wasn’t just the fact that it’s the biggest fish I’ve caught, but more to do with the particular spot on the Findhorn I was fishing and the process of seeing a fish, casting over it and experiencing that heart stopping moment when the line tightens.

I’d considered having a carving made to commemorate the catch but they can look a bit static.

Our friend, the artist Mark Hearld, had recently created an illustration for the republished ‘Salar The Salmon’ by Henry Williamson and seeing this prompted me to speak to Mark about a life size painting of the fish.

Mark has collaborated with Emily Sutton – who has created the lettering – for this vibrant painting, currently being framed.
