Richard Beard's Hackney Year

7th March 2014

A London Sound Survey update from Ian Rawes:

Richard Beard is a musician and wildlife recordist with deep family roots in Hackney, east London, where he still lives. Between March 2012 and March 2013, Richard set out to record the ambience in his back garden every morning for a year. The resulting recordings have a beautiful transparency and mark the procession of the year and its ever-changing choir of bird species.

One hundred of them are presented on the London Sound Survey website in a sound diagram plotting the Earth’s course around the Sun. An information graphic summarises Richard’s careful notes for each recording, so you can see at a glance when the different bird species are heard during the year.
