From Ken Worpole:

I was recently asked to contribute to a series of BBC Radio 3 talks on fortifications – buildings and landscapes – and these are to be broadcast next week, Mon 26 Jan to Friday 30 Jan at 22.45. The series is called The Fall and Rise of the British Castle.

Castles in Concrete, the talk I am giving, is on Friday 30 January at 22.45. It begins with some thoughts on Jason Orton’s photograph of the Second World War mine-watching tower on the Dengie Peninsula, attached, and reflects on the twentieth-century coastal fortifications of Essex, and their symbolism as ruins in the landscape today.

Kind regards,

Ken
